Products

• Essentis SOA Adaptor

• WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS®

• IBM CICS® Transaction Server

Euronet Essentis Ltd., an IBM Advanced Business Partner, develops software applications used in banking systems for the processing of payment card transactions. Those applications, running on IBM System z® servers, exchange information with IBM database and transaction processing middleware. Most recently, Essentis enabled its bank customers to apply Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to their application development and back-office processes.

Challenge

Information technology personnel have typically developed different end-user interfaces at banks for the different end-user departments that need access to card merchant accounts or card transaction data. For example, tellers would access data via one process, call center personnel another, loan departments another. Each system involved its own development, training and support costs.

The challenge was to enable banks to easily integrate diverse IT systems and to improve the support for end-to-end business processes. It also would enable banks to build a single, standard Web interface that all departments could use, thus cutting out a variety of separate costs.

Solution

With the development of its SOA Adaptor, Essentis brings full Web service enablement to all of the functionality that end-user departments may require. The key was to make use of the existing Web service functionality in the IBM CICS Transaction Server and to use IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS to enable developers to simply drag and drop whatever Web service functions an end-user department might require. The Essentis SOA Adaptor provides a single standard SOA protocol interface to all Essentis business functions.

Benefits

• Banks can shorten their application development times and lower support costs

• They can revise and tailor their card offerings faster and more easily

• IT personnel have more flexibility in reconfiguring back office business processes
