Comtec Global, Ltd., an insurance software solutions provider, uses IBM DB2®, WebSphere® and FileNet products as the foundation for its Total Insurance System (TIS), an end-to-end insurance application package. Comtec is owned by the Malam-Team Group, one of Israel’s leading technology providers.

Challenge

Most insurers continue to rely on legacy systems that cannot easily be adapted to the Internet, are costly to maintain and make it difficult to compete in today’s fast-moving market. Comtec, an IBM Advanced Business Partner that participates in IBM PartnerWorld® Industry Networks and is optimized in the insurance industry, has solved this problem with TIS, its Web-based, enterprise-wide solution.

Solution
TIS, which primarily serves the property and casualty insurance market, performs all the functionality required by insurers, including policy administration, billing, collection, claims processing and reinsurance/reporting. The integrated, modular solution, which runs on the IBM System i™, brings the entire insurance value chain on to a common platform via advanced and secure Web technology, where all parties work from the same IBM DB2 Universal Database™, embedded in System i.

The DB2 database provides mass data storage and exceptional availability. WebSphere Portal allows secure distribution of information over the Internet. DB2 Content Manager and FileNet support paperless document management.

TIS also uses service-oriented architecture (SOA)—a layered framework for enabling business flexibility through linked individual business tasks. SOA enhances TIS connectivity functionality.

• Maximizes speed to market for new products
