Overview

Headquartered in Mexico City, Grupo Presidente is one of the most prestigious hotel and restaurant operators in Mexico. Beginning its operations in 1954 as a state-owned company, Grupo Presidente was acquired in 1985 by a private stockholders group. Currently, the company has 60 business units distributed in four branches: luxury hotels, business hotels, gourmet restaurants and vacation clubs.

Business need:
Grupo Presidente sought to expand its market reach while keeping its operational expenses and database portfolio from growing at the same rate as its property base. Management was intent on centralizing all databases and applications around its core property-management software and wanted, in addition, to optimize the business value of the information contained in the new data infrastructure. The challenge was to implement a powerful data integration solution coupled with a business intelligence platform that could provide predictive analytics to help the company gain a competitive edge.

Solution:
This company integrated its databases and applications and imbued the centralized infrastructure with business intelligence that gave management access to real-time bookings status for its properties, along with customer behavioral insights. The pace of new bookings now provides the basis for the generation of accurate predictions of a hotel property’s occupancy rate. Management is now able to allocate staff and supplies at a level commensurate with occupancy, or invoke promotional strategies to stimulate sluggish bookings. The company’s loyalty program also benefits from the solution.

Benefits:
The solution reduced technology deployment times by 70 percent for operationalizing new interfaces and 50 percent for existing interfaces Predictive analytics helped the company weather and even grow during business downturns by providing decision support for temporary staffing and supply reductions Management can now see every property transaction in detail in real time and generate reports on the spot, including batch process reports that formerly required one week to complete

Case Study

Headquartered in Mexico City, Grupo Presidente is one of the most prestigious hotel and restaurant operators in Mexico. Beginning its operations in 1954 as a state-owned company, Grupo Presidente was acquired in 1985 by a private stockholders group. Currently, the company has 60 business units distributed in four branches: luxury hotels, business hotels, gourmet restaurants and vacation clubs.

The Opportunity
Grupo Presidente sought to expand its market reach while keeping its operational expenses and database portfolio from growing at the same rate as its property base. Management was intent on centralizing all databases and applications around its core property-management software and wanted, in addition, to optimize the business value of the information contained in the new data infrastructure. The challenge was to implement a powerful data integration solution coupled with a business intelligence platform that could provide predictive analytics to help the company gain a competitive edge.

What Makes It Smarter
To meet the challenges of delivering a consistently excellent stay at its properties and expanding its market reach—while prudently managing expenses—this company integrated its portfolio of databases and applications and imbued the new centralized infrastructure with business intelligence. With full data sharing among the databases and applications in place, the business intelligence capabilities gave management access to real-time bookings status for its properties, along with customer behavioral insights. The pace of new bookings now provides the basis for the generation of accurate predictions of a hotel property’s occupancy rate a week or a month in the future. Management is now able to allocate staff and supplies at a level commensurate with occupancy, or invoke promotional strategies to stimulate sluggish bookings. The company’s loyalty program also benefits from the solution, using newly available customer spending data to personalize member offers.

Real Business Results
• The solution reduced technology deployment times by 70 percent for operationalizing new interfaces and 50 percent for existing interfaces
• Predictive analytics helped the company weather and even grow during business downturns by providing decision support for temporary staffing and supply reductions
• Management can now see every property transaction in detail in real time and generate reports on the spot, including batch process reports that formerly required one week to complete
