Case Study

COMPANY BACKGROUND

As one of Germany’s largest full-service IT providers for cooperative financial institutions, FIDUCIA IT AG provides IT services, including application development and hosting, to more than 1,000 German cooperative banks.

CHALLENGE
FIDUCIA’s IBM System z10™-based mainframe environment enables the company to deliver high-availability solutions to customers. By adding a system automation component to the environment, FIDUCIA hoped to even further improve availability by reducing the risk of unplanned outages, simplifying and securing operational system controls, and eliminating the need for manual recovery and maintenance.

SOLUTION
FIDUCIA turned to IBM Tivoli® software for industry-leading systems automation capabilities on the IBM z/OS® platform. Based on IBM Tivoli NetView® software, IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS software enables FIDUCIA to automate input/output, processor and systems operations, so that their mainframe environment can run almost completely unattended. The company installed the solution with separate policy databases for each of several sysplex environments within the larger mainframe environment.

The system automation software’s self-healing features help ensure high availability for critical applications. It monitors the technology environment for adherence to company-defined desired states and launches appropriate responses based on those pre-defined policies. In the event of faults, outages or planned maintenance, applications can be moved from one machine to another automatically to ensure high availability. The software also integrates with FIDUCIA’s IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS to optimize the company’s processes.

BENEFITS

  • Helps to ensure high availability in case of faults or outages
  • Centralizes system administration and message management
  • Enables smooth integration with other Tivoli products
