Case Study

As an IBM Premier Business Partner, Genus Technologies LLC develops products that extend the capabilities and value of its customers’ IBM investments. The company provides system integration and specializes in enterprise content’s capture, management, integration and delivery. In addition, Genus Technologies creates social content and rich media management solutions. Headquartered in Minneapolis, the organization has approximately 100 employees.

Challenge
Rich media, such as videos, images and documents, is becoming an increasingly important part of organizations’ strategic communication mix, and enterprises need to effectively manage and deliver this content. At the same time, technology is evolving, file sizes are increasing and new platforms are emerging, all of which make it more difficult for companies to maintain content.

Genus Technologies strives to provide a superior user experience by standardizing video, image and document file formats. These files usually require users to install multiple players. Organizations want to provide staff members around the globe with media-infused experiences and reliable image and video capabilities on assorted computers, smartphones and tablets.

Solution
Genus Technologies created Genus Media Upshot solution to work with IBM Enterprise Content Management offerings such as IBM Connections, IBM FileNet® Content Manager and IBM Web Content Manager software. To create transparency, Genus Technologies worked with the IBM Connections product development team to identify specific integration points to enhance the overall user experience around rich media.

Genus Media Upshot solution performs rich media ingestion processing, management and delivery. The solution stores a media object once and then delivers it to various applications or users, anywhere on any device. Customers’ employees can access near-real-time streaming video and use rich media to create a more compelling and effective user experience. On desktop and mobile screens, media applications play directly from the Connections interface, similar to a “corporate YouTube.”

Users interested in digital asset management can organize content into collections or folders and access a persistent clipboard that provides quick access to often-used files. The Genus Media Upshot solution offers powerful search and enterprise content management capabilities such as an extremely complete metadata model.

A Genus Technologies customer, Slumberland Furniture, uses the Genus Media Upshot solution on in-store kiosks. Sales associates can now use the kiosks to watch factory or vendor training videos and programs about that week’s featured merchandise. The content is broadly available, security-rich, timely and relevant.
