This communications service provider wanted to revamp its manual approach so that it could decrease testing time and increase the quality of its applications.
A detailed design document and initial test used IBM Rational Test Workbench software to simplify testing processes.
The communications service provider boosted team efficiency by 300 percent and reached test conclusions within 25 percent to 40 percent of the original timeframe.
This communications service provider chose IBM® Rational® Test Workbench software and the provider’s test team used the tool to create, run, publish and subscribe tests within the middleware system supplied by an IBM Business Partner®.
The tester would publish a message to a system, subscribe to “hear” the response and then manually check the results to verify that the test had worked. The communications service provider was seriously upgrading its systems, which were based on the business partner’s infrastructure, and the provider realized that with the size of the upgrade project, the existing manual approach would be unmanageable.
Seeking to improve the quality of delivered applications and to reduce testing time, the communications service provider asked IBM for additional advice and assistance about using Rational Test Workbench more effectively.
The communications service provider engaged its onsite IBM consultants, who created a detailed design document for the project and defined an initial test to verify the level of achievable automation.
The initial test included testing single and multiple messages, testing single and end-to-end applications, validating the database by checking values of fields written to the database, and handling errors by examining return levels and reactions of other applications.
Once the initial test was complete and the results were verified, the team was easily able to define additional tests from scratch or to reuse already-defined tests.
· Increased team efficiency by 300 percent, reducing a typical testing cycle from four weeks to less than one week
· Decreased test completion timeframe, allowing for test conclusions in 25 percent to 40 percent of the original estimated time
