Case Study

Situated on the west coast of Sweden, the City of Göteborg (in English, Gothenburg) is the second-largest in the country, with a population exceeding 500,000 people. The city employs approximately 45,000 employees working in more than 80 departments and units to provide services to nearly 1 million residents in the metropolitan area.

Challenge
Gothenburg had used Accelerated Value Program (AVP) services from IBM Software Services for Collaboration (ISSC) since 2004. When negotiating another two-year contract, the city wanted to address several key issues. First, it needed assistance with a planned upgrade to its IBM WebSphere® Portal infrastructure. The city also wanted help maintaining its IBM Lotus Domino® platform and boosting the availability of its popular citizens’ portal.

Solution
Gothenburg engaged IBM Software Services for Collaboration to provide Accelerated Value services for two additional years. Because of the value derived from the Lotus AVP, the city expanded the contract in June 2011 to include coverage for its IBM Security Systems (ISS) Tivoli® software as well. The new contract provides an Accelerated Value Leader (AVL) , as well as five nominated customer callers for advanced support call logging with IBM. The AVL continues to act as a Trusted Advisor and single point of contact with the wider IBM team, researching appropriate information, advising on best practices, facilitating IBM technology adoption, and proactively providing the city with valuable preventive actions. The program also offers access to technology knowledge-sharing calls and AVP seminars.

Benefits
· Accelerates infrastructure upgrades and technology adoption and provides prompt, proactive attention to technology issues, channeled through a single point of contact
· Delivers rapid access to highly skilled and experienced administrators who help manage the Lotus Domino environment efficiently
· Helps increase the return on Lotus and Tivoli software investments
