Case Study

IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud software integrates Salesforce.com with PeopleSoft ERP technology

This US university is a private research educational institution that offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

Challenge
Enterprises today rely on hybrid IT environments consisting of on-premises and cloud-based applications. Operations can suffer, however, if these applications remain unintegrated and out of synch. This can impede processes, reduce productivity and prevent employees from having a current view of business-critical information.

Business applications at this US university include the PeopleSoft for ERP solution, the Salesforce.com service for CRM and the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. All are engaged in running fund-raising campaigns, acting on opportunities and managing donor accounts and the donation process.

To improve the effectiveness and accountability of these operations, the university needed to integrate the applications. Key advantages would be more effective tracking of fund-raising activities and elimination of error-prone, manual data entry. Because fund-raising and donation management are so important to the university’s financial health, the university needed an integration solution developed quickly.

Solution
The IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration and WebSphere® Cast Iron® Hypervisor Edition virtual appliance met these requirements, dramatically simplifying the integration of the Salesforce.com service with on-premises and cloud-based applications. Using a “configuration, not coding” approach that includes prebuilt connectors and process templates for Salesforce.com technology integration, the WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud platform helps ensure
fast and easy project completion without custom coding or deep middleware expertise.

The client capitalized on these competencies to greatly improve its capabilities for fund-raising and donation management. The university’s IT staff integrated the PeopleSoft ERP solution, which provides donation processes and workflows, with the Salesforce.com service for account, opportunity and campaign management. It then synchronized both with donor information in the SQL Server 2000 database. The IT staff completed this project in just 25 days.

Benefits
· Achieved fast time to value from the “configuration, not coding” approach to application integration
· Improved tracking and visibility of fund-raising efforts from real-time access to business information
· Increased staff productivity and reduced errors by eliminating manual data entry
