Case Study

IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration reduces costs, enables project completion in just five days

A leading provider of ERP software and solutions, this company was founded in 1975. It is headquartered in the United States and serves more than 4,500 customers across 68 countries in markets such as manufacturing, distribution, maintenance and services. From the Fortune 500 global organization to the small or midsize business, this company helps customers across the world succeed.

Challenge
To improve its CRM business function, this software provider sought to migrate from Siebel technology to the Salesforce.com cloud-based service. This required integrating Salesforce.com technology with both ERP and data warehouse applications, a task best performed using web services and service-oriented architecture (SOA). Unfortunately, the company lacked expertise in these areas.

Custom programming could accomplish the integration, but that solution would not be extensible to myriad formats and protocols such as SQL, web services, flat files and FTP. What’s more, custom coding was estimated to take 160 hours, tying up IT resources better allocated to more strategic activities.

Solution
The software company addressed these challenges with IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration. The technology provides preconfigured integration solutions for hundreds of leading enterprise and cloud applications, including the Salesforce.com technology. By using a “configuration, not coding” approach, WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration enables Salesforce.com service customers to complete their migration and integration projects quickly without custom coding or deep middleware expertise.

With the help of WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration, the client connected the Salesforce.com service with its ERP and data warehouse applications in real time. The integration project, which included one-click configuration of prebuilt Salesforce.com platform connectors, was completed from start to finish in just five days.

Benefits
• Achieved fast time to value from the “configuration, not coding” approach to application integration
• Improved IT productivity by replacing 160 hours of custom coding with eight hours of configuration
• Reduced IT labor costs by USD513,000 and total software ownership costs by USD500,000
