Case Study

IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration connects cloud application to on-premises solution in days

This medical device company designs, develops, manufactures and markets products for the surgical treatment of spine disorders, with a primary focus on the aging spine. Headquartered in the United States, the company aims to combine world-class customer service with innovative, surgeon-driven design that helps improve the aging patient’s quality of life.

Challenge
Enterprises today increasingly adopt Software as a Service (SaaS) applications for the benefits they deliver in ease of deployment, agility and utility-based pricing. This can present a challenge to an IT staff, however, when it needs to integrate cloud-based software with on-premises applications.

The medical device company faced this situation after adopting the Oracle CRM On Demand cloud-based service. Staff members had to synchronize user, account and contact information from the CRM service with the Epicor Vantage ERP on-premises application. Initially, workers manually entered data across systems. Moving forward, the company needed to eliminate this time-consuming, error-prone process by integrating the two applications.

Solution
The IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration offered the solution. Fast and easy to use, the platform features built-in technology for integrating the Oracle CRM On Demand solution with other enterprise applications, both on premises and in the cloud. WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud software integration uses a “configuration, not coding” approach that dramatically simplifies application integration without custom programming or deep middleware expertise.

These capabilities served the medical company well. Within days, IT staff members capitalized on WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration to develop an intuitive, easy-to-maintain integration solution between Oracle and Epicor. The client gained considerable business benefits from real-time, bidirectional transmission of user, account and contact data between the two systems.

Benefits
· Achieved fast time to value thanks to the “configuration, not coding” approach to application integration
· Increased staff productivity by eliminating manual data entry
· Improved the ability to hit deadlines through more efficient CRM and ERP processes
