Case Study

Application integration using IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration delivers ROI in three months

A world leader in the field of bioscience, this biochemical company in the United States supplies antibodies, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and proteins for life science research and diagnostics. The privately held business develops more than 800 new products annually.

Challenge
The biochemical supplier was facing costly data and process redundancies in which multiple process steps slowed its sales cycle. Its process provided no visibility between on-premises ERP software from Oracle and the cloud-based Salesforce.com CRM service. In addition, tedious manual data entries in three systems increased the risk of erroneous information.

Solution
To enable integration among its cloud and on-premises applications, the supply company implemented IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration. The solution simplifies data migration and application integration though a “configuration, not coding” approach that doesn’t require expert programmers or middleware specialists. Users get the added benefit of preconfigured integration solutions for hundreds of leading enterprise and cloud applications, including the Salesforce.com and Oracle systems.

These capabilities served the company well. It used the WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration native connectivity to Salesforce.com applications to create bidirectional connectivity from the cloud to the Oracle E-Business Suite offering. Because of the easy-to-use templated approach, the company completed the project in just three weeks and fully supports it with a two-person IT team.

Benefits
• Reduced errors from manual data entry and increased the speed of business processes
• Improved sales effectiveness, with quote-to-sales conversions rising from 35 percent to 65 percent
• Saved USD43,000 in base costs and USD86,000 in annual labor costs, gaining full ROI within three months
