Case Study

IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration empowers junior IT staffers to complete integration project

A company in the United States that provides workers’ compensation insurance focuses on midsize employers aiming to achieve long-term cost savings. Working through a select group of independent brokerages, the firm has assets of USD230 million and serves more than 2,400 customers.

Challenge
This insurance company worked with multiple vendors that provided electronic data interchange (EDI) with document outputs in different formats. In addition, it used manual workflows for key processes and had no contingency plan for workflows when users were unavailable or out of the office. Processes became time-consuming, inconsistent and error-prone, and latency in claims reporting increased risk for all parties. Moving forward, the company sought an integration solution that would streamline key business processes held in disparate systems.

Solution
The insurer chose IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration, which simplifies data migration and application integration though a “configuration, not coding” approach that doesn’t require expert programmers or middleware specialists. In fact, junior IT staffers at the company easily learned the application, enabling them to successfully complete the project. Postintegration, the company achieved bidirectional connectivity and reconciled output among its EDI vendors. The new solution automatically routes various file types correctly across different workflows, speeding processes and eliminating the need for manual workflow and data entry. Further, WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration provides an easy-to-use interface for centralized management of all integrations.

Benefits
• Reduced claims adjustment costs by eliminating erroneous and duplicate payouts
• Accelerated claims processing times and reduced risk through real-time integration
• Delivered incremental revenues by improving customer satisfaction
