Case Study

IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration connects Salesforce.com and Taleo solutions in five days

This nonprofit association in the United States operates educational programs during the summer and after school. The organization’s mission is to transform the academic achievements, self-confidence and life trajectories of children living in under-resourced urban communities. Students benefit from the association’s small-group academic instruction, mentorship, a wide range of enrichment activities and community engagement. In 2010, more than 10,000 students took part in the organization’s programs.

Challenge
The more efficient a nonprofit, the more budget and resources it can allocate to its core mission. This academic organization aimed to improve operational efficiency by eliminating manual update processes between two cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions: Salesforce.com CRM technology and the Taleo application for talent management. Requirements included an integration solution that would support the organization’s cloud-based infrastructure and enable rapid project completion without hiring costly integration programmers.

Solution
The educational group met these requirements by implementing IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration, a fast and simple solution for data migration and application integration across multiple systems such as ERP software, CRM solutions, databases, demand-based services and custom applications. The technology delivers simplicity by providing everything needed to complete application integration using a “configuration, not coding” approach, with no programming necessary. As an added plus to Salesforce.com application users, WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration includes preconfigured integration technology for the cloud-based service.

Successfully capitalizing on these capabilities in its integration project, the client completed the transition in only five days. The solution delivered real-time, bidirectional integration of assignment information such as scheduling and resource allocation in the Salesforce.com technology with human resources (HR) information in the Taleo application, including whether a candidate was hired, trained or terminated. The solution aligned well with the organization’s cloud-based infrastructure.

Benefits
• Achieved fast time to value by virtue of “configuration, not coding” approach to application integration
• Improved staff productivity thanks to elimination of manual data entry between the two systems
• Reduced costs by USD60,000 as a result of time savings from more efficient processes
