Additionally, ongoing maintenance, tuning and management of installed applications and systems often take valuable IT resources away from the next big project.

Reducing time to value for new applications

SugarCRM’s market-leading customer relationship management (CRM) solution helps companies make every user a customer expert, creating personalized one-to-one connections between users and customers every time they engage.

Sugar enables users across an organization to understand each customer as an individual, obtain all relevant customer information in a single view, and access that information when it matters.

Since SugarCRM’s solution is managed as a single system, complexity and IT overhead are reduced, contributing to lower total cost of ownership. Consistent with this value proposition, SugarCRM also wanted to streamline the deployment process.

With any software implementation, one of the challenges companies traditionally face is time to value. Deploying a CRM solution in minutes with IBM PureApplication System

To help simplify and accelerate the deployment of its CRM solution, SugarCRM created an application pattern on the IBM PureApplication System.

Using the system’s built-in patterns of expertise, SugarCRM developed a template that codifies and automates the installation of all the necessary components—IBM DB2®, IBM WebSphere® and SugarCRM software—transforming a highly manual, time-consuming and resource-intensive process into a quick and easy one.

IT administrators can customize their deployment and get the application up and running with just a few clicks of the mouse. In fact, Oram says, companies can deploy the SugarCRM solution on IBM PureApplication System 200 times faster than on traditional systems.

“We’ve found that deploying SugarCRM within the PureApplication System environment to be one of the simplest and most straightforward deployment environments,” says Oram. “SugarCRM, powered by PureSystems, enables our customers to quickly and easily deploy an entirely new SugarCRM application in just a matter of minutes—something unheard of in a traditional data center environment. We are also providing mobile and social applications for iOS and Android devices and integrating with IBM Connections. The PureSystems environment will enable customers to deploy these capabilities many times faster than a traditional IT environment as well.”

Reducing maintenance by 50 - 65 percent

According to Oram, the PureApplication System also simplifies ongoing maintenance and management of the CRM solution to eliminate the cost-intensive work that is traditionally required to support CRM systems.

“The integration of hardware and software removes the guesswork or sizing exercise needed to determine the amount of hardware needed for an enterprise installation,” says Oram. “With SugarCRM’s pattern for PureSystems, the need for dedicated staff to test and deploy is eliminated and we anticipate clients will see a 50 - 65 percent reduction in maintenance and management time.”

Accelerating cloud deployments

Many companies have begun to implement private clouds to increase computing capacity and agility. And, here too, Oram says, the PureApplication System is designed to simplify the move to cloud computing. For example, IBM SmartCloud® Entry software will help clients automate provisioning processes so that companies can deploy SugarCRM on the PureApplication System in a cloud in just 2 - 4 minutes.

“The cloud brings you scalability, but not always security,” Oram says. “Deploying behind the firewall certainly brings you security, but hasn’t brought you scalability. IBM PureSystems bring the two together, giving companies the scalability and security they need so they can make their customer relationships that much more empowered.”
