“The IBM solution has made it possible for us to build a wireless network with RFID tracking for Xingguang Park, enabling the park to increase the safety and services it offers its customers, as well as to improve park management, with fewer resources.”
—China New Media Development Zone

China New Media Development Zone is a government department tasked with developing new media services for China.

Challenge
Xingguang Park is a major television park in China. Numerous people, including movie stars, employees and visitors, enter the park daily. Xingguang Park asked service provider China New Media Development Zone to build a wireless sensor network in order to monitor the location of park entrants and to help ensure their safety. The system would enable Xingguang Park to better serve and guide visitors according to their registration levels.

Solution
IBM Global Technology Services built a three-layer wireless sensor network on IBM System x3650 servers. The sensor layer uses radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to track people and equipment in real time; the monitoring layer uses digital cameras and wireless bulletin boards to track people and assets under defined policies; and the workflow layer connects the sensors and monitors to business applications and emergency command systems.

Benefits
• Monitors and manages personnel and visitors more efficiently, with fewer resources
• Provides a connection to asset awareness applications, guidance systems and emergency command systems
• Helps ensure the safety of people in large crowds
