Overview

Implanet is a European medical device company headquartered in Bordeaux, France.

Business need:
Implanet needed to offer a guaranteed traceability solution for patient safety and also an optimized supply chain solution for all stakeholders. The observation was that manufacturers and hospitals were allocating a great deal of resources to identify and locate devices—increasing costs and risk of human errors. Implanet uses information technology and RFID to offer socially and economically responsible solutions for all stakeholders in the healthcare chain.

Solution:
Implanet has created a new service that provides real-time product tracking throughout its entire supply chain with an information on demand portal for all stakeholders. This new proprietary technology, “BeepNTrack,” is built with IBM RFID Solution for Pharmaceutical track and trace and IBM InfoSphere™ Traceability Server technology. Implanet uses RFID technology to provide permanent traceability of devices from raw material to manufacturing to patient implantation and vice versa.

Benefits:
Decreases the cost of medical devices; optimizes staff productivity to locate and identify devices quickly and perform inventory in one hour a week instead of nine; guarantees traceability and patient safety by eliminating or reducing human interventions; offers immediate access to the concerned device in case of recalls; assesses device authentication against counterfeiting risks
