Overview
Treating more than 10,000 patients each day, Guang Dong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the largest hospital system in southern China. The organization is recognized for its efforts to integrate traditional Chinese medicine with contemporary Western medical practices.
Business need:
The Guang Dong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine could not share medical information easily between departments or hospitals because of independent records management processes. Routinely, when patients transferred between branches, they would have to repeat medical tests because their records could not be transferred with them. The hospital wanted to deploy an electronic, patient-centric records system that could offer access to a patient’s medical data, regardless of location.
Solution:
The hospital deployed the clinical and health records analytics and sharing (CHAS) system, an intelligent information management solution that consolidates medical data from a number of systems into individual records that can be shared easily. These records, stored on an IBM DB2® 9 data server, are then tagged with standardized terminology, allowing users to leverage the solution’s semantic capabilities to quickly sort through data and identify patterns.
Benefits:
Eliminates process redundancies and increases the availability of medical data, leading to better, more timely patient care; enhances the efficiency of research efforts by streamlining reporting and data analysis processes; standardizes medical records, enabling information sharing and collaboration across departments and eventually with other healthcare facilities
