Overview
Mxtran Inc. is a designer and provider of mobile payment solutions, specializing in smart card offerings, embedded system design and application development. A subsidiary of Macronix International Co., the organization is active in both Taiwan and China.
Business need:
Wanting to expand its portfolio of mobile payment solutions, Mxtran devised a new “wallet phone” offering that involved attaching radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to cell phones. These tags would act as prepaid credit cards, allowing consumers to transfer funds to the wallet phone and subsequently purchase goods and services at retailers using only their cell phones.
Solution:
Mxtran implemented IBM Lotus® Expeditor, Version 6.1 software to act as an integration framework for the wallet phone system. The software serves as a bridge between the prepaid credit lines of wallet phone users and payment terminals in department stores across Taiwan and China.
Benefits:
• Creates a new revenue stream, helping Mxtran tap in to new markets
• Minimizes management costs with a tightly integrated infrastructure and remote management capabilities
• Cuts checkout times and improves retailers’ quality of service
• Offers consumers a more secure, easier-to-use payment option

Solution
Teaming with IBM Global Technology Services, Mxtran implemented IBM Lotus® Expeditor, Version 6.1 software to act as an integration framework for the wallet phone system. The software serves as a bridge between the prepaid credit lines of wallet phone users and more than 3,000 payment terminals installed in department stores across Taiwan and China. Users can also leverage the wallet phones to purchase concert tickets and transit passes.
The payment terminals—which are embedded Linux® devices—rely on IBM DB2® Everyplace®, Version 9.1 and IBM WebSphere® MQ Everyplace, Version 2.0 software to synchronize user information and financial transactions with Mxtran’s systems.
