Reflexis Systems, Inc. (Reflexis), an IBM Advanced Business Partner and independent software vendor (ISV), offers software applications and solutions to midsize and large retailers on five continents.
To help retailer customers speed time to market, focus on innovation, increase ROI and drive profitability, Reflexis Systems, Inc. sought a scalable, integrated and intelligent solution for its workforce-management solution.
Reflexis created a pattern of expertise for its workforce-management software solution on IBM® PureApplication™ System and IBM PureFlex™ System technology, solutions from the IBM PureSystems™ family.
By eliminating hardware and software configuration and assembly requirements, the company reduces implementation times by eight weeks or more and expects to vastly accelerate time to technology ROI.
Reflexis Systems, Inc. (Reflexis), an IBM Advanced Business Partner and independent software vendor (ISV), offers software applications and solutions to midsize and large retailers on five continents. Customers use these solutions to turn their retail strategy into action and to increase sales. The company is headquartered in Dedham, Massachusetts, and employs approximately 300 people.
Turning long deployments and disparate systems into streamlined integration
The Reflexis platform of task management, labor scheduling, time and attendance and near-real-time operations solutions helps enable retailers to ensure the right employee is taking the right action at the right time to increase revenue and help store associates better engage cross-channel-enabled shoppers. With the Reflexis platform, retailers can plan better, streamline communication and help ensure, in all stores, consistent execution of their promotional, merchandising, labor operations and customer service strategies.
Although Reflexis has a reputation for quickly implementing its software solution, typically taking only weeks or months compared to competitors who take years, the company saw room for improvement. The company noticed that retailers’ IT departments took up to eight weeks to order and configure the various components that Reflexis relies on for infrastructure. Using so much valuable IT staff time to prepare for an installation could result in millions of dollars of lost opportunity. In addition, Reflexis found that, generally, retailers spend an excessive amount of time and money maintaining existing solutions, from Reflexis and other enterprise software companies. It would be better if customers could devote these resources to innovation.
To further complicate matters, many retailers have additional seasonal technology needs. They often deploy pop-up stores for limited periods to maximize profitability during holidays and other peak seasons. Moreover, many retail brands regularly open new stores, sometimes as many as 100 or 200 per year. Therefore, it is critical that an IT solution easily scale to meet a retailer’s short-term and long-term growth demands. To help its customers speed time to market, focus on innovation, increase ROI and drive consistency and profitability, Reflexis sought a scalable, integrated and intelligent solution.
Certifying workforce-management software for IBM PureSystems offerings
To meet midsize and large retailers’ wide range of needs, Reflexis certified and created patterns of expertise for its workforce-management software solution on IBM PureApplication System and IBM PureFlex System technology, solutions from the IBM PureSystems family. Prashanth Palakurthi, founder and chief executive officer for Reflexis, views the PureApplication System solution as “magic for retailers” because all necessary technology is integrated in a single box.
Instead of supporting and managing disparate systems and different customer configurations, Reflexis can now rely on these patterns of expertise, which are embedded in the solution. After more than a decade of implementing software for various retailers, ranging from a small-box discount chain with 10,000 locations averaging 10,000 square feet to a merchant with 40 stores averaging 300,000 square feet, the company has intelligence about the computing resources it needs for each installation. Now, Reflexis can encapsulate this knowledge into its software solution on PureSystems offerings so customers can more easily implement a preformatted solution.
This out-of-the-box, streamlined solution also allows Reflexis to more quickly and easily integrate its software with other retail systems, such as point-of-sale and human resources applications, because the entire store technology infrastructure can potentially reside in one place and can integrate with existing applications running on disparate systems. PureSystems offerings simplify the entire technology process, from implementation to ongoing management.
Speeding time to market by eight weeks or more, potentially increasing ROI
By optimizing its software for PureApplication System and PureFlex System technology, Reflexis experiences numerous benefits. The company eliminates the time required to assemble and configure an infrastructure’s hardware and software layers, which reduces implementation times by eight weeks or more. Retailers therefore see ROI more quickly, and Reflexis expects it to vastly accelerate time to technology ROI. Dave Andrews, director of marketing communications for Reflexis, says: “Once our application is configured, we can just roll out one box that’s already tuned for that retailer’s IT and application needs. Typically, this can reduce our implementation time by about four to eight weeks, and time is money.”
Retailers must constantly change to remain competitive and keep up with market trends, and the PureSystems solution provides the necessary adaptability, elasticity and flexibility. Reflexis can plan for a customer’s growth ahead of time and provide a solution that easily scales as a retailer adds new stores and employees. The technology can handle expansion without needing additional hardware or software and without requiring technicians to reconfigure or retune the application. Similarly, retailers can implement the Reflexis solution in just one day when they install seasonal pop-up stores.
Further, the solution is self-managing and can automatically handle processes such as data backups, allowing customers to devote fewer IT resources to ongoing management and maintenance. Simplified systems and a streamlined infrastructure help retailers spend more time focusing on innovation, customer service and sales. Palakurthi exclaims, “I see PureSystems as a way of bringing innovation back to the forefront of retailing. PureSystems is an absolutely stunning product for retailers, and we think it will drive tremendous business gain.”
