"The support we received from the IBM Rational Jazz community and from the Rational developers has been excellent." - A software company
A software company
IBM Business Partner:
This company provides software and integration services for the healthcare, defense, and intelligence and national security industries. With customers in more than 40 countries, it employs approximately 450 people and reports annual operating profits of EUR4.8 million.
The company needed a change and configuration management platform to support agile development across disparate locations.
It engaged IBM® Business Partner Tieto Corp. to install IBM Rational Team Concert™ software for source control management.
The solution helps improve efficiency, cut USD70,000 in monthly costs and decrease software administration efforts by 83 percent.
The company is continually seeking to improve efficiency and fine-tune its business processes. Appraised at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 5, the company realized that manual processes for recording programming data were hindering collaboration and efficiency. Specifically, the company’s Microsoft .NET and Java software developers, who depend heavily on refactoring techniques to adjust program code, were spending too much time on software configuration management (SCM) administration. The company wanted to improve these manual processes based on its well-defined corporate CMMI framework. The business needed a common change and configuration management platform that would support agile development in geographically disparate locations. It sought a supported and proven system to address its needs.
The company engaged IBM Business Partner Tieto Corp. to install IBM Rational Team Concert software on its Microsoft Windows technology-based servers. The IBM Software Services for Rational® group provided a detailed deployment plan and worked with the IBM Jazz™ Jumpstart team to deliver workshops on the solution and to perform pilot projects. To enhance the client’s organizational understanding and acceptance of the Rational Team Concert software, the Software Services for Rational team delivered customized on-site consulting courses followed by two mentoring sessions.
With the IBM solution, the company gained a more intuitive way to work within its existing Microsoft Visual Studio environment. For example, the company uses the Rational Team Concert Scrum process template, which it modified to better suit its needs. Geographically distributed teams now take part in daily Scrum meetings, which facilitate better collaboration. The organization takes advantage of the complete set of capabilities included in the Rational Team Concert software, even though it initially planned to use the platform only for source control management, work items and build management.
· Improved the efficiency of delivering refactoring change sets, saving up to USD70,000 per month
· Decreased SCM administration efforts by 83 percent
· Gained the ability to tailor project adjustments to the existing CMMI framework, which was not possible previously
