AAA Assurance Corp. is a Vietnam-based insurance and financial services provider that specializes in marine, motor vehicle, personal accident and property insurance products as well as niche personal insurance products. Established in 2005 and located in Ho Chi Minh City, the company grew quickly to include more than 50 branches, 100 sales centers and representative offices, and a network of 10,000 agents throughout Vietnam.

Challenge

With offices and agents located around the country, AAA Assurance garnered a network of decentralized systems and data spread throughout its organization. The insurer wanted to centralize its IT infrastructure strategically within its headquarters data center; however, it lacked the space, processing capabilities and reliability to support the company’s sophisticated integrated management modules for underwriting, reinsurance, accounting, assessment, claims and call center support. AAA Assurance sought an IT service provider with extensive data center strategy and design capabilities as well as in-depth insurance industry experience to engineer a state-of-the-art green data center environment with the scalability to meet the expanding company’s needs.

Solution

After careful consideration, AAA Assurance engaged IBM® Global Technology Services® to design, build and implement a new data center. The IBM IT Facilities Assessment, Design and Construction Services team conducted a site-readiness survey of the company’s headquarters office space and provided consulting services for operational process improvements. At the conclusion of the study, which evaluated the insurer’s current and anticipated data center based on the company’s business objectives and available resources, the IBM team recommended a scalable, modular data center solution. The company’s new Tier 2 data center configuration includes energy-efficient cooling, lighting, electrical supply and backup power capabilities; sophisticated fire-detection and fire-suppression systems; and security, closed-circuit television and access controls. The IBM team designed the network and server systems configuration with built-in redundancy and the scalability to accommodate growth. To meet the client’s pressing needs, the team worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to fully construct and deploy the new data center within three months after the contract was signed. To maintain maximum system availability, an IBM data center strategy and planning team helped the insurer implement standards-based operational processes with monitoring and evaluation tools, and it provided consulting services for disaster recovery site selection and improved business continuity and recovery solutions.

Benefits:
● Reduced infrastructure energy costs by 53 percent and lowered operational expenses with an efficient, centralized data center
● Improved business continuity with improved system availability, application performance and disaster recovery processes
● Gained industry and IT consulting expertise, culminating in a rapid solution deployment tailored to the client’s needs
