Customer:
A global electronics manufacturer

Industry:
Electronics

Deployment country:
Japan

Solution:

Overview

This global electronics manufacturer has been one of the largest electronic manufacturers in the world since its foundation. It manufactures and markets a wide range of products under its brand to enhance and enrich lifestyles all around the globe. The corporation comprises various business domains centered on electronics, from home appliances, to industrial equipment, communications devices, housing facilities and environment-related facilities.

Business need:
Recently, a global electronics manufacturer was experiencing a deterioration of its brand image. The company was relying on email and phone for internal and external communication, which proved to be time-consuming and inefficient. Software developers used email to share codes (sometimes extremely long) with external business associates, which clogged recipient email in-boxes. Additionally, purchase sales inventory was linked via phone or fax, which ultimately affected the ability of products to be stored.

Solution:
The manufacturer engaged IBM to design and implement a solution consisting of a communication and collaboration foundation for approx 210,000 people. The global workplace solution is built on IBM Lotus Notes software, and IBM SmartCloud Notes (formerly LotusLive Notes) and IBM SmartCloud Engage (formerly LotusLive Engage services), and it provides the foundation to business associates that need to share and leverage information on a common platform. The global workplace solution stores user profiles of all members and facilitates sharing of member pictures, division names and job descriptions.

Benefits:
· Improves productivity and communication by allowing employees to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors and business associates worldwide through chat, web conferencing and communities features · Speeds and enables localized product development by providing stakeholders with centralized, real-time and anywhere, anytime access to key information about customer needs and desires in specific marketplaces · Enhances product quality by enabling the manufacturer to provide technical guidance, product updates and pricing information within days to various geographies and local markets

Case Study

This global electronics manufacturer has been one of the largest electronic manufacturers in the world since its foundation. It manufactures and markets a wide range of products under its brand to enhance and enrich lifestyles all around the globe. The corporation comprises various business domains centered on electronics, from home appliances, to industrial equipment, communications devices, housing facilities and environment-related facilities.

Challenge
Recently, a global electronics manufacturer was experiencing a deterioration of its brand image. The company was relying on email and phone for internal and external communication, which proved to be time-consuming and inefficient. Software developers used email to share codes (sometimes extremely long) with external business associates, which clogged recipient email in-boxes. Additionally, purchase sales inventory was linked via phone or fax, which ultimately affected the ability of products to be stored. To tackle these issues and help ensure future business growth, the company sought to develop products that best suited each local marketplace’s specifications and potential customer needs and that enhanced sales in emerging marketplaces. The company needed to further localize its business by developing and enhancing the speed and quality of information coordination and collaboration with stakeholders—including its vendors—and related subsidiaries in growth regions, particularly India.

Solution
The manufacturer engaged IBM to design and implement a solution consisting of a communication and collaboration foundation for approximately 210,000 people. The infrastructure allows the company to communicate in real time (internally and externally) and invite any member outside the organization to collaborate on and transform process operations both inside and outside the group. The company estimates that the ability to provide products that meet field demand, based on the implemented solution, will improve forecasted achievable sales figures in India to increase by 100 percent over the next two years.
