Overview

The state-owned Group Credit Agricole of Morocco (GCAM) is a universal bank originally founded to finance agricultural activity and the social and economic development of rural Morocco. Today the fourth largest bank in Morocco, GCAM continues to strongly support the agricultural and food sectors through financing, advice and technical expertise. Equally, it operates a network of more than 400 retail and commercial branches throughout the country, with 50 new branches opening annually.

Business need:
To support its growing business and enable greater competitive differentiation, Group Credit Agricole of Morocco (GCAM) needed a more flexible and agile set of information systems. The existing traditional data storage environment was inefficient, difficult to manage, and lacked the performance required to support the new virtualized and consolidated application landscape.

Solution:
GCAM installed two IBM® XIV® Storage Systems for production in its Rabat data center, adding to an existing IBM System Storage® DS4800 in its Casablanca data center 100 km away. The two XIV systems in Rabat synchronously replicate to each other using the built-in XIV mirroring software. GCAM also deployed two IBM TS7650G ProtecTIER® Deduplication Gateways, with IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager, IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM Systems Director.

Benefits:
· Completed migration of all banking data within just three days, using built-in XIV migration capabilities · Cut response times for database requests in half; reduced batch runs that previously took six hours to 3.25 hours · Gained a flexible, high-performance virtualized storage platform that offers extreme resilience with practically zero administration, enabling the GCAM staff to focus on meeting their strategic goals.
