Camar S.p.A. is an Italian designer and manufacturer of technical fittings for the furniture industry, including brackets, shelf supports, and table legs.
Business need:
Camar needed a new IT solution that could deliver improved performance and reliability, and enable better integration between applications. At the same time, the company wanted to provide employees with new communication and collaboration capabilities.
Solution:
Camar worked with IBM Business Partner CTA Informatica to develop a total infrastructure solution, starting with an IBM Power 525 Express server to run the company’s ERP system and to host its new Lotus Domino Express software. Camar also added seven IBM BladeCenter HS21 servers to host Citrix and Oracle applications, and an IBM System Storage TS3100 Tape Library to provide expanded backup capacity.

Camar S.p.A. is an Italian designer and manufacturer of technical fittings for the furniture industry, including brackets, shelf supports, and table legs. Established in 1960, Camar is located in the heart of northern Italy’s furniture district.
Challenge
Camar’s legacy IT infrastructure was beginning to experience performance issues, resulting in more time needed to detect failures and to perform server backups. In addition to addressing these issues, Camar wanted a new infrastructure solution that would provide better integration between applications and support new communication and collaboration capabilities.
Solution
Camar worked with IBM Business Partner CTA Informatica to deploy a server, storage, and software solution based on IBM Power 525 Express, IBM BladeCenter HS21, and an IBM System Storage TS3100 Tape Library. The Power 525 Express server, running the IBM i operating system, runs the company’s ERP software. It also hosts Camar’s new IBM Lotus Domino Express implementation, which provides an integrated platform for e-mail and instant messaging. The BladeCenter servers, running Linux, host Citrix software and Oracle applications, while the tape library provides expanded capacity for backups.
