Joint stock company Prague Airport was founded in 2008 when the former state-run airport became privatized. Due to its location in the heart of Europe, Prague Airport has become increasingly important as a transit hub.

Business need:
Prague Airport needed to refresh its IT infrastructure with a new solution that could deliver greater performance and efficiency in order to improve the organization’s ability to respond to changing business needs. The airport also needed to increase business resiliency while reducing operating costs.

Solution:
Working with IBM Premier Business Partner AutoCont CZ, Prague Airport implemented a comprehensive IT solution that included servers, storage, and advanced virtualization technology, matching IBM solutions to the organization’s unique workloads.

Case Study

Joint stock company Prague Airport was founded in 2008 when the former state-run airport became privatized. Prague Airport currently employs about 2,200 workers and handled a record 12.6 million passengers in 2008. Due to its location in the heart of Europe, Prague Airport has become increasingly important as a transit hub. Currently, the airport services about 50 airlines which offer direct flights to more than 130 destinations worldwide.

Challenge
Prague Airport was seeking an IT solution that could reduce costs and increase operational effectiveness while providing a more secure and reliable infrastructure. The airport was also seeking a solution that could address the company’s need for faster implementation of new business applications, while offering a more fault-tolerant environment that would help ensure continuous operations.

Solution
Prague Airport worked with AutoCont CZ, an IBM Premier Business Partner, to develop a complete infrastructure solution that included IBM servers, storage, and advanced virtualization technology. AutoCont CZ is a services and solutions provider and systems integrator located in the Czech Republic. The company provides services and solutions in three major focus areas: outsourcing and servicing, IT infrastructure, and business applications.

Relying on the expertise of AutoCont CZ, Prague Airport implemented a robust new IT infrastructure, matching IBM hardware solutions to the organization’s unique workloads based on a comprehensive systems audit. IBM hardware components include IBM® BladeCenter®, IBM System x®, IBM Power Systems™, and IBM System Storage® solutions. Virtualization is provided through VMware and IBM PowerVM technology. IBM high-availability clustering and Metro Mirror replication capabilities are used to help ensure business continuity.
