The company used IBM Worklight software to develop applications for multiple mobile devices.

Benefits:
We would say that almost 60% of the traditional way of developing cost is reduced when we develop it using Worklight. It means that if I need to develop a native application for four different devices…we need 400 hours of time, whereas using Worklight, it may require 100-150 hours of time. Shiv Kumar, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, ZSL, Inc.

Yuvaraja Manickam : ZsL is a 16 year old global systems integrator and solution provider, having headquarters in Edison, New Jersey. We are heavily focusing on latest and newer technologies that are coming into the market, for developing cross-platform application or native-based applications for mobile devices.

Shiv Kumar: Interface mobility is one of the key growth areas, . It basically like exceeded the traditional PC and laptop. Considering the mobile devices volume and the penetration in the marketplace, we are looking at the anywhere anytime any device

Yuvaraja Manickam: The trend is going towards ‘Bring Your Own Devices’ rather than moving from one consolidated set of devices.

Shiv Kumar: So from that aspect, the anytime anywhere computing and availability of those applications on this device is becoming . And these types of technologies are going to help in reducing the cost of operation and also increase the level of customer satisfaction or employee satisfaction

Yuvaraja Manickam: We are continuously evaluating and looking for very fitting cross platform mobile applications and when we came across IBM Worklight, we thought it is a very right fit to address all the needs.

Shiv Kumar: We selected Worklight over the other products that we were evaluating for couple of reasons. One is obviously the development cost significantly reduced because now we need to support multiple devices, multiple operating systems in single code base

Yuvaraja Manickam: We would say that almost 60% of the traditional way of developing cost is reduced when we develop it using Worklight. It means that if I need to develop a native application for four different devices…we need 400 hours of time, whereas using Worklight, it may require 100-150 hours of time. So it's a tremendous amount of effort that is getting reduced.

Shiv Kumar: The second thing is the management and the administration of those applications, which we are developing.

Yuvaraja Manickam: There is a one single console that the administrator can manage all these devices connected with this particular application and maintaining the versions and the subversions very efficiently. Irrespective of any platform or irrespective of any devices, security should be part of any mobile application development.

Shiv Kumar: Considering our focus in the vertical market such as banking, finance, insurance industries, security is very, very critical.

Yuvaraja Manickam: IBM Worklight has lot of good number of security aspects like encrypted offline cache, offline authentication processes and detecting jailbreak and the Malwares, protecting from repackaging. It has an ability to integrate with existing authentication infrastructure; it's a very cool function. And it also has an ability to identify the devices for the second factor authentication process. So, these all are very key security aspects.

Shiv Kumar: And then the last part is more about the analytics where you will be able to get a lot of analytics reports based on the usage of these mobile applications. So using those analytics and the reports, we will be able to fine tune what type of features that you need to deploy when it comes to the mobile application and also it helps in looking at the possible upgrades when it comes to the next versions of the same application to be released.

Yuvaraja Manickam: Using Worklight, I believe we are addressing the current need and the current demand for the customers. Moving forward, there will be the challenges with the security aspects, challenges with the update processors. So we will have one-stop solution for every need of mobile application development using Worklight.

Shiv Kumar: IBM’s commitment to the innovation and also investment on this type of platform is giving more confidence to us to transform lot of our business applications based on Worklight platform, where we will be able to get better ROI for our investment when it comes to our solution development on the Worklight.
