IT Director
Sprint Nextel Corporation

Vicki Ryan: around the world, you see carriers trying to figure out new ways to drive new businesses besides the traditional telecom services.

Rick Rafail: one of the things that we are starting to look at is how can we expand our service layer in a secure way so that people could use their mobile device for business.

Alan Krause: we proved that IT could be a partner for a business. And as we marketed our team to the product organization within Sprint, they saw that there is an opportunity to use DataPower and EAI to launch a new advertising gateway,

Vicki Ryan: So the ad platform actually has enabled us to reach a new audience. In addition to our traditional telecom audience that we sell mobile devices to, and data plans, this now allows us to go to brands out in the marketplace.

Alan Krause: Pinsight Media+ wouldn’t have been something that Sprint could have done in the past without a truly dynamic integration layer based upon the DataPower appliances.

Alan Krause: DataPower is a technology that is allowing our people to focus more on innovation. So we have the tool in place; we have the process in place, and now the people can go out and sell what we are doing to our business team

Alan Krause: To bring in new advertising partners and generate revenue for Sprint

Rick Rafail: being able to quickly bring on new consumers of services, potentially filter specific data just for one particular consumer, things of that nature are very important to enable us to bring on bigger partners, sign big deals with other business partners and consumers.

Alan Krause: If we are working with a partner that’s selling on behalf of Sprint, we want to make sure that they have enough information to sell, but they don’t have enough information to fish for data on our customers and use that data inappropriately

Vicki Ryan: the way that the ad platform works, that data, it’s very protected,

Alan Krause: we can secure the data; we can filter our responses so that we don’t return a customer’s credit card or Social Security Number if it's not directly to the customer.

Alan Krause: The IT organization is trying to figure out how can we be more flexible, how can we use our tools, our processes and our people to roll out products and projects in months rather than years.

Alan Krause: the IBM DataPower appliances have raised the bar for EAI organization.
