Case Study

An international provider of healthcare-related products and services for healthcare professionals, institutions and consumers uses cloud technology to manage data

This company is an international provider of healthcare-related products and services for healthcare professionals, institutions and consumers. It operates in 25 countries.

Challenge
A publicly held, multinational organization on a rapid growth trajectory by virtue of acquisitions and significant investments in new product development, this company grapples with a massive and ever-expanding volume of complex data. That data is generated by scores of disparate applications and distinct operating units worldwide, yet the company needs to assimilate, access and deliver it on time to a full range of internal and external information consumers. The data must satisfy the analytic and decision-making needs of managers throughout the organization. It must also be in a format that is usable by the company’s direct salesforce, its network of distributors and its customer service personnel. Finally, the data must enable the company to meet the reporting requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act as well as the stringent demands of the healthcare sector for data integrity and security.

Solution
The company implemented IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Cloud integration to automate a customized, highly manual process for integrating batch data generated by the company’s range of businesses and applications. WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud integration helps eliminate information silos and batch processing, providing executives, departments and business units worldwide with protected access to pertinent, real-time information in a single repository and increasing the speed at which users can access and use actionable data.

Built on the IBM WebSphere platform, this cloud integration software provides preconfigured integration solutions, helping the fast-growing company make the most of its IT investment by linking its multiple locally based, traditional applications with cloud-based applications. Users can now create queries on an ad hoc basis by assimilating information from multiple endpoints into a single data warehouse.

Benefits
• Increases productivity by automating the process of collecting and integrating massive amounts of complex, real-time data from disparate systems
• Improves enterprisewide visibility into actionable information from multiple sources, resulting in better reporting, more agile decision making and more responsive customer service
• Provides full data integration scalability for a fast-growing global enterprise
