Overview
Founded in 1970, Koyou Lease Co., Ltd (Koyou Lease) is a general equipment rental company with sales of over 10 billion yen. In collaboration with six of its business departments, Koyou Lease provides space planning, setup, IT infrastructure and maintenance for both domestic and international clients in the construction, real estate and event industries. Koyou Lease offers the widest variety of products in the equipment rental industry, managing over 10,000 items from 10 logistics bases around the country.
Business need:
Koyou Lease is a general rental service provider offering one-stop, comprehensive equipment rental solutions. Koyou Lease was having difficulty tracking the location of inventories, resulting in high operational costs due to excess, missing and stolen inventory. Koyou had no immediate, centralized visibility to the location and status of its assets, spread across 10 rental locations. Since these rental assets were distributed across the country, it was also difficult for Koyou Lease to immediately confirm the availability of rental assets upon receiving orders from clients.
Solution:
Without a way to track the location and condition of assets, equipment rental companies face significant problems. The company now uses RFID to track its equipment when assets leave or are returned to storage, or during maintenance. Not only does the company gain real-time insight into the exact location and rental status of its assets, reducing theft and out-of-stocks, but it can now also proactively repair or replace worn or damaged equipment. Keeping customers happy is paramount, and the tracking system provides insight into customers’ tastes and demands to give them what they want.
Benefits:
- Reduces unnecessary safety stock by 25 percent, while providing an expected 15 percent revenue increase per year, and a 10 percent increase in gross profit by 2017
- Provides a real-time, single view of all assets and inventory across all locations, allowing the company to instantly locate and quickly deliver rental products
- Enables Koyou Lease to create new designs and more profitable offerings that its customers want, based on insight into rental and client information, giving it an advantage over its competitors
