Overview

A national insurance wholesaler based in the United States, InsureTrust works to simplify insurance for emerging risks. For over 10 years, the company has provided customers with services for emerging risks related to cyber liability, technology error and omission issues, and miscellaneous professional liability.

Business need:
The existing IBM Lotus Notes 7.0.3 software at InsureTrust was beginning to slow because of a large volume of file attachments, including a large number of portable document files (PDFs). While the company realized that purchasing and installing additional hardware could improve system performance, InsureTrust wanted to avoid the cost of a hardware upgrade.

Solution:
InsureTrust worked with IBM and IBM Business Partner Simplified Technology Solutions to upgrade to IBM Lotus Notes 8.5 software, allowing the company to track all aspects of its business, such as policy information and renewal dates. In addition to the upgraded software, the company also implemented the Lotus Domino Attachment and Object Service.

Benefits:
By upgrading to Lotus Notes 8.5, InsureTrust realized a 58 percent savings in file space while lowering its total cost of ownership and improving its return on investment; DAOS resulted in additional space savings, faster server response times and helped the company avoid purchasing new hardware; InsureTrust estimates significant cost savings for hardware and services, since it would require more service hours to implement a new server than it does to simply upgrade software

Case Study

A national insurance wholesaler based in the United States, InsureTrust works to simplify insurance for emerging risks. For over 10 years, the company has provided customers with services for emerging risks related to cyber liability, technology error and omission issues, and miscellaneous professional liability.

Challenge

The existing IBM Lotus Notes 7.0.3 software at InsureTrust was beginning to slow because of a large volume of file attachments, including a large number of portable document files (PDFs). While the company realized that purchasing and installing additional hardware could improve system performance, InsureTrust wanted to avoid the cost of a hardware upgrade.

Solution

InsureTrust worked with IBM and IBM Business Partner Simplified Technology Solutions (STS) to upgrade to IBM Lotus Notes 8.5 software, allowing the company to track all aspects of its business, such as policy information and renewal dates. In addition, improved performance allows business-critical CRM data to be stored in Lotus Notes databases. In addition to the upgraded software, the company also implemented the Lotus Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS), which is an included technology that allows InsureTrust to consolidate multiple, identical copies of attachments down to a single copy, which is stored in a separate repository on the server, thereby significantly reducing the amount of space required at the file level.

Benefits

-By upgrading to Lotus Notes 8.5, InsureTrust realized a 58 percent savings in file space while lowering its total cost of ownership and improving its return on investment

-DAOS resulted in additional space savings, faster server response times and helped the company avoid purchasing new hardware

-InsureTrust estimates significant cost savings for hardware and services, since it would require more service hours to implement a new server than it does to simply upgrade software
