Case Study

Krungthai Panich Insurance is an insurance company in Thailand that provides insurance packages for motor, fire and marine and has more than 500 employees.

CHALLENGE
The company leveraged proprietary core applications to support their mission-critical business processes. However, the core applications were developed on and supported by outdated technologies and could no longer support the company’s growing infrastructure. Krungthai Panich Insurance’s IT environment consisted of Sun Microsystems Solaris and Dell servers, Sun Microsystems storage devices, and Veritas backup software. The company needed to adopt a new IT infrastructure and new core applications with Web capabilities to support business growth.

SOLUTION
Krungthai Panich Insurance adopted the PREMIA insurance management software suite to perform the company’s primary business functions, including underwriting and policy administration, claim management, and accounting. To support these new insurance applications, they replaced their legacy Sun and Dell IT infrastructure with a new IBM infrastructure.

The company implemented four IBM Power® 520 servers and three Power 550 servers running the IBM AIX® 6.1 operating system, as well as seven IBM System x3650 servers and two IBM System x3850 servers running Microsoft® Windows®. An IBM System Storage™ DS4800 provides data storage, and System Storage SAN switches connect the servers to the storage device. An Oracle database stores and manages data related to the new PREMIA software, while IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager provides automated data storage and recovery capabilities.

BENEFITS
