Executive viewpoint

As people gather together at this time of year to see friends and family over the holidays, being social takes on a traditional meaning. A modern meaning of being social revolves around the collaborative activities we can do to innovate, make better decisions and improve processes for better business results. Social business is becoming critical to creating agile organizations. This month we show how process improvement is achieved most quickly and effectively, and even becomes transformational, when it’s a social business activity.
As part of our centennial celebration, IBM hosted a THINK Exhibit at Lincoln Center in September and October. It enabled visitors to immerse themselves in interactive learning around how progress towards a better world has been achieved, and how we all can lead the future advancements in the world. Next year, the THINK Exhibit is coming to Impact 2012. Impact attendees who missed the Lincoln Center debut can still experience the essence of the exhibit.
IBM also hosted over 700 leaders at “THINK: A Forum on the Future of Leadership” in Lincoln Center just as the THINK Exhibit was set to open. Leaders in government, business, academia and science from around the world met to explore current and future challenges in a complex and fast-changing world. Read about the THINK Exhibit and leadership forum, and be challenged to tackle your “unsolvable” problems and lead your organization’s progress in the future.
As the industry gets caught up in the buzz around the potential business value of cloud computing, we wanted to take a look at what the established SOA approach contributes to cloud that enhances its value. Read about how SOA applies to cloud, including service orientation, encapsulation and standards, from the insights of IBM Fellow Rob High. Rob also describes three ways to improve your cloud solutions.
Relax and enjoy the social traditions of the holiday season. Next year we’ll continue to bring you the latest thinking on how to apply technology to solve tough challenges and move your business forward.
Continued success,
