Point of Reference: Migrations and Tradeups Defined at November 2004 Product Release

This page last updated May 3, 2007

With the IBM Rational November 2004 Product Release we introduced a collection of product migration and trade-up paths to the "Contemporary MDD" offerings. These paths were made available to customers who then owned, or subsequently purchased, the "Rose XDE" products or "Rose" products and they continue to be available to those customers who remain current on their maintenance. A description of those historical migration and trade-up paths may be examined here

Previously defined migration paths that remain in effect

With the IBM Rational November 2004 Product Release we introduced the following default/automatic migrations:
  1. IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer migrates to IBM Rational Application Developer (default/automatic migration).
  2. IBM Rational Functional Tester for Java and Web migrates to IBM Rational Functional Tester (default/automatic migration). The new IBM Rational Functional Tester product supports both Java and Visual Studio development, so "for Java and Web" was dropped from the name.
  3. IBM WebSphere Studio Site Developer migrates to IBM Rational Web Developer (default/automatic migration).

At that time we also introduced three on-request migrations (these will not occur by default now or in the future). To request any of these migrations, please contact an IBM Rational sales representative .
  1. Customers who are current on maintenance for both IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java or Rose Developer for Java may elect to migrate both of those licenses to one license of IBM Rational Software Architect. The possible migrations are:
  • (1) IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer user [or (1) IBM Rational Application Developer authorized user] + (1) IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java authorized user [or (1) IBM Rational Rose Developer for Java authorized user] migrates to (1) IBM Rational Software Architect authorized user,
  • (2) IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer authorized user [or (2) IBM Rational Application Developer authorized user] + (1) IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java floating user [or (1) IBM Rational Rose Developer for Java floating user] migrates to (1) IBM Rational Software Architect floating user, and
  • (1) IBM Rational Application Developer floating user + (1) IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java floating user [or (1) IBM Rational Rose Developer for Java floating user] migrates to (1) IBM Rational Software Architect floating user.
For example, a customer who has 8 per user licenses of IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and 5 floating licenses of IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java may choose to migrate 4 of their IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer licenses and 2 of their IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java licenses to 2 licenses of IBM Rational Software Architect. When the migration is complete, the customer would have 4 per user licenses of IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer, 3 floating licenses of IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer for Java, and 2 floating licenses of IBM Rational Software Architect.
  1. Customers who are current on maintenance for both IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus may elect to migrate both of those licenses to one license of IBM Rational Software Architect. The possible migrations are:
  • (1) IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer user [or (1) IBM Rational Application Developer authorized user] + (1) IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus authorized user [or (1) IBM Rational Rose Enterprise authorized user] migrates to (1) IBM Rational Software Architect authorized user,
  • (2) IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer user [or (2) IBM Rational Application Developer authorized users] + (1) IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus floating user [or (1) IBM Rational Rose Enterprise floating user] migrates to (1) IBM Rational Software Architect floating user, and
  • (1) IBM Rational Application Developer floating user + (1) IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus floating user [or (1) IBM Rational Rose Enterprise floating user] migrates to (1) IBM Rational Software Architect floating user.
For example, a customer who has 8 per user licenses of IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and 5 floating licenses of IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus may choose to migrate 4 of their IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer licenses and 2 of their IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus licenses to 2 licenses of IBM Rational Software Architect. When the migration is complete, the customer would have 4 per user licenses of IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer, 3 floating licenses of IBM Rational Rose XDE Developer Plus, and 2 floating licenses of IBM Rational Software Architect.
  1. Customers who are current on maintenance for IBM Rational Suite may elect to migrate to the combination of IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform plus IBM Rational Professional Bundle plus IBM Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft®.NET. The possible migrations are:
  • (1) IBM Rational Suite authorized user migrates to (1) IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform authorized user plus (1) IBM Rational Professional Bundle authorized user plus (1) IBM Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft®.NET authorized user.
  • (1) IBM Rational Suite floating user migrates to (1) IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform floating user plus (1) IBM Rational Professional Bundle floating user plus (1) IBM Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft®.NET floating user.
For example, a customer who has 5 floating licenses of IBM Rational Suite may choose to migrate 2 of these licenses to 2 floating licenses of IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform and 2 floating licenses of IBM Rational Professional Bundle and 2 floating licenses of Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft®.NET. When the migration is complete, the customer will have 3 floating licenses of IBM Rational Suite, 2 floating licenses of IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform, 2 floating licenses of IBM Rational Professional Bundle, and 2 floating licenses of Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft®.NET.

To request any of these three migrations, please contact your IBM Rational sales representative .
