Rational Open Access RPG Edition

IBM® Rational® Open Access: RPG Edition allows extensions to ILE RPG’s native I/O to access new resources and devices.

A full-featured version of the limited support provided by RPG SPECIAL files that provides a way for RPG programmers to use the simple and well-understood RPG I/O model to access new devices and resources that are not directly supported by RPG.

• Extend ILE RPG applications to access new devices and resources using custom I/O handlers.
• Leverage existing handlers provided by 3rd party tool vendors, business partners, services organizations, and open source or write your own.
• Access devices and resources such as Web browsers, mobile devices, services, Cloud resources, XML files, or spreadsheets
• Reuse existing RPG programming skills.
• RPG IV language changes included in IBM i 7.1 and 6.1 (via PTF)
• Rational Open Access: RPG Edition licensed program enables new runtime capabilities and is required on all partitions where ILE RPG programs are using I/O handlers.
• Operating systems supported: i/OS family
