As described on the migrations Overview page, the four "Rose XDE" products are being withdrawn and four new "Rose only" offerings have been introduced:
Customers with entitlements to the withdrawn products have a migration path to the replacement offerings, but also have alternate migration paths available, to the following products:
In distilled form, here is what you should do if you own Rose XDE, and use XDE:
- Start planning now to migrate to the newer offerings (Rational Software Modeler, Rational Systems Developer, etc.) RSx by Sep 30, 2007 (the End of Service date for XDE)
- Accept maintenance renewals based upon the products that we quote by default. Initially these will be Rose-only offerings (later we will begin to quote the newer products such as Rational Systems Developer, but it will be some time to come before we begin that process)
- Once we convert your Rose XDE entitlements into Rose entitlements, you can still use XDE on a supported basis until the XDE End of Service date (Sep 30, 2007). However, you will no longer be able to access XDE media kit or e-assembly part numbers through Passport Advantage. Instead you will be able to access XDE downloads via a Customer Support download site that will remain available until August 31, 2007.
- You can begin operational adoption of the newer MDD offerings to which you are entitled at any time, without regard to whether your current maintenance is based on a Rose XDE offering, a Rose-only offering, or the actual newer offering. We call this "anticipatory access" to the newer offerings. It means you need not request conversions of your entitlements from Rose XDE, or from Rose, to the newer offerings.
- As you adopt the newer offerings you can request that your entitlements be moved to those offerings but as just noted, there is no requirement that you do so and eventually we will move them for you.
The document links below offer more detailed procedural guidance about how to navigate through the migration process, depending upon which specific XDE editions are being used. The following definitions will be useful as you read the documents
- The term adoption refers to the process of starting to use a newer product, operationally
- The term migration refers to the process of converting an entitlement to one product into an entitlement to a newer product
- The term Anticipatory Access refers to a mechanism that permits holder of an entitlement to an older product, to begin adoption of a newer product without first requesting migration of the entitlements
- The term Retrospective Access refers to a mechanism that permits holder of an entitlement to a newer product, continue to access the product images of an older (predecessor) product
Note: The documents below only provide guidance regarding entitlement migrations. Optional tradeup scenarios are not included. For information about tradeups, see Migration Details.
