Rational expert: Arthur Ryman

Arthur RymanDr. Arthur Ryman is the Chief Architect for IBM Rational Project and Portfolio Management (PPM). He has over 30 years of experience in the development of software tools, both within the industry, and at the IBM Canada Laboratory which he joined in 1982. In his current role, he is responsible for defining the overall product architecture for the Rational PPM portfolio, which includes Rational Focal Point, Rational Project Conductor, Rational Insight, and Rational Publishing Engine. He leads and contributes to the creation of PPM and related software development standards at Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (http://open-services.net (link resides outside of ibm.com) ). These standards, which exploit Web architectural principles such as REST, Semantic Web, and Linked Data, are core to Rational’s Jazz Integration Architecture.

Prior to his PPM role, he led the development of Web tools at Eclipse, and contributed to the development of Web service standards at W3C and Apache. He was a development manager and architect for Java Web tools in a series of integrated development environments including Rational Application Developer, WebSphere Studio Application Developer, VisualAge for e-business, and VisualAge for Java. Before that, he was a founder of the IBM Toronto Centre for Advanced Studies and served as its Associate Head for four years. His initial projects in IBM created word and image processing products.
