IBM Announces Innovations at Rational Software Development Conference

Rational software - Software and system development

During the Rational Software Development Conference, on May 23, 2005, IBM announced several new products and services that extend the IBM Software Delivery Platform. These innovations further IBM's goal of assisting their clients in performing business driven development by bringing together the requirements, processes and tools of the business, development and operations teams.

Operations

The most prominent announcements resulted from the Tivoli and Rational divisions working closely to deliver innovations that allow the operations teams and development teams to work closely together. By bridging the gap between development and operations domains, IBM is uniquely able to assist clients in overcoming the challenges of full IT Lifecycle Management.

Two of these offerings -- IBM Problem Resolution Toolkit for Rational Application Developer and IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit for Rational Performance Tester -- enable a faster, automated and more coherent process for application problem identification and resolution.

Other announcements relating to unifying the development and operations teams included:

Business

To further align the needs of the business into Business Driven Development, a new version of IBM Rational Portfolio Manager was announced. In addition, to enable clients to quickly realize the benefits and best practices for IT project portfolio management, several professional services and a new process plug-in were announced.

Development

Also announced, offerings designed to automate and accelerate development activities:

New Service Oriented Architecture design and development resources now available on developerWorks provide better integration between WBI Modeler and Rational Software Architect, new UML profiles for visualizing and modeling Web services and RUP process guidance for business analysts using WBI Modeler and software architects using Rational Software Architect.
