The IBM License Metric Tool [ILMT] helps you maintain an inventory of the PVU based software deployed for your Full Capacity or Virtualization (Sub-) Capacity environment, and measures the PVU licenses required by software Product. It is intended to help you manage your IBM software licensing requirements, and help you maintain an audit ready posture. Customers are responsible for supplying hardware and installation services required for installing the tool.
Two versions of ILMT are available, version 7.5 of ILMT was announced on 13 December 2011 via Software Announcement 211-329 and version 9.0 of ILMT announced on 11 March, 2014. Customers have 90 days from first eligible Virtualization (Sub)-capacity product deployment to install and begin using ILMT for supported virtualization technologies. New ILMT customers can install either V7.5 and/or V9.0 depending on the operating system and virtualization environments supported by each release.
Use of IBM License Metric Tool
The use of IBM License Metric Tool is recommended for Full Capacity PVU environments, and is mandatory for use with PVU sub-capacity licensing. Exceptions to this requirement are:
1. when ILMT does not yet provide support for the Eligible Virtualization Environment
2. if your Enterprise has fewer than 1,000 employees and contractors worldwide, you are not a Service Provider, and you have not contracted with a Service Provider to manage your Eligible Virtualization Environment
3. if total physical capacity of your servers with an Eligible Virtualization Environment, measured on a Full Capacity basis, but licensed using sub-capacity terms is less than 1,000 PVUs.
For the above exceptions, customers must manually manage, track, and prepare a Manual Calculation of Virtual Capacity worksheet for each server. For more details about the requirements for this worksheet, you can go to Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules or use the Manual Calculation of Virtual Capacity worksheet available from the right hand nav bar.
Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed V7.5 [TADd] as well as IBM Endpoint Manager for Software Use Analysis 9.0 [IEM SUA], can be used in lieu of ILMT V7.5. Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed V7.5 can be licensed as announced on December 13, 2011 via Software Announcement 211-329 as well as with IBM Endpoint Manager for Software Use Analysis 9.0 announced on March 5, 2013 via Software Announcement 213-080 which now includes Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed V7.5 as a supporting program. For more information, visit Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed or IBM Endpoint Manager for Software Use Analysis.
IBM License Metric Tool V9.0 and IBM Endpoint Manager for Software Use Analysis 9.1, announced on March 11, 2014 via Software Announcement 214-014, do not support all operating systems that are supported by ILMT 7.5 or TADd 7.5. If your Eligible Virtualization Environment consists of operating systems or virtualization environments that are not supported by ILMT 9.0, IEM SUA 9.0 and 9.1, you are required to use ILMT 7.5 or TADd 7.5 (including the one provided as bundled into IEM SUA product licensing) to comply with IBM Virtualization Capacity (Sub-capacity) Licensing requirements. ILMT 9.0 or IEM SUA 9.0 and 9.1 may be used for Virtualization (Sub)-capacity reporting if your environment complies with the operating systems and virtualization environments supported by ILMT 9.0 and IEM SUA 9.0 and 9.1 as described in the Eligible Virtualization Technologies table.
IBM Tivoli License Compliance Manager V2.3 (ITLCM) was withdrawn from marketing on July 28, 2009 via Announcement 909-167 and replaced by TADd.
Whether using ILMT, TADd, IEM SUA, or the Manual Calculation worksheet, customers must maintain documentation for at least two years to demonstrate ongoing compliance with these Sub-Capacity Licensing terms.
For details of Sub-capacity licensing requirements, including requirements for maintaining documentation, see the Passport Advantage Virtualization Capacity (Sub-capacity) Licensing and the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules.
