Abstract

Session 1: DB2 11 for z/OS technical overview

Join us for a technical overview of the functions and features of the new DB2 11 for z/OS release, including those related to performance, availability, utilities, security, and analytics. Based on the quality and stability of DB2 11, many clients are already making plans for it. We will also share important hints and tips, and how to perform risk mitigation to enable a fast start and smooth migration to DB2 11.

Session 2: Exploiting DB2 10 for z/OS CPU-saving technology

Every new release of DB2 for z/OS provides plenty of new capabilities for boosting system and application performance. However, many clients do not fully exploit these performance-enhancing features. That’s leaving MIPS on the table. In this session, learn how to put to work valuable performance-tuning technology introduced in the last three releases of DB2 for z/OS – Versions 8, 9 and 10. Topics will include buffer pool tuning techniques, dynamic statement caching, table-controlled range partitioning, index INCLUDE columns, hash-organized tables, index-on-expression, and high-performance DBATs.

Session 3: DB2 for z/OS Optimizer - What’s new in DB2 11 and exploiting DB2 10

If you’re using DB2 10 for z/OS and planning to migrate to DB2 11, this session will give you details on DB2 11 “out-of-the-box” performance improvements – more than in DB2 9 and DB2 10 combined. Topics include predicate rewrites to improve index ability, hash join optimizations, duplicate removal enhancements, DPSIs, subqueries and more. We will also recap DB2 10 enhancements to be sure you are exploiting them correctly, such as IN-list enhancements, predicate optimizations, safe optimization, SQL pagination and more. If you are interested in improving performance for your DB2 applications, then don’t miss this session.

Session 4: Getting the most from the DB2 Analytics Accelerator

Data warehousing and analytics on the zEnterprise platform is gaining momentum as organizations take advantage of DB2 for z/OS, DB2 Analytics Accelerator and the zEnterprise infrastructure, people and processes to support big data analytics initiatives. If you want to get more out of your DB2 for z/OS data or if you are already supporting data warehousing on zEnterprise, this session can help. We’ll share case studies and best practices that demonstrate how businesses are using the latest DB2 and zEnterprise technologies to deliver greater insight across their organizations.

Session 5: DB2 Utilities update and best practices

This session covers practical information to help you get the most availability and performance out of your DB2 Utilities investment. We’ll also cover the latest enhancements delivered with DB2 11 for z/OS. Topics include how to take full advantage of performance enhancements; maximizing DB2 real-time statistics; and copy, backup and recovery techniques for the 21st century. You’ll leave the session with useful information on getting the maximum benefits from the features delivered in the DB2 Utilities Suite for z/OS. These features can help you manage your utility maintenance to improve the performance of critical DB2 for z/OS applications.
