A real-world DB2 for z/OS encryption success story at Verizon Wireless
Available in replay for your convenience, register now.
Developed for: IT managers, database administrators and managers, application programmers and managers, enterprise and IT architects, systems programmers, security officers, CTOs
Technical level: Intermediate
Are you a DB2® professional challenged by your business to conform to regulatory pressures such as PCI, Sarbanes-Oxley and other compliance initiatives? Is your security officer asking about encryption? Are you concerned about the impact of encryption on application performance, availability and your ability to maintain service levels? These are valid concerns, and now you can learn how one major telecommunications company addressed them through a successful encryption implementation.
Join us for this complimentary teleconference with Verizon Wireless, a premier wireless carrier with more than 70 million subscribers. It has a very large DB2 on z/OS® environment, with high transaction volumes of more than 10 million CICS® and DB2 transactions per hour, that result in billions of DML statement executions per day. Several of its DB2 tables have a row population that exceeds 20 billion DB2 rows. By encrypting its DB2 on z/OS databases using the IBM Encryption Tool for DB2 and IMS™ Databases, Verizon Wireless is helping to guarantee the privacy of its customer information, using a cost-effective solution that leverages state-of-the-art encryption methodology, and well-positioning the company to demonstrate compliance with PCI encryption requirements.
This presentation begins with a technical overview of encryption terminology and its components. We’ll discuss the complete Verizon project lifecycle, starting with the solution evaluation, proof of technology, Q/A and stress test, and ending with phased production implementation across multiple Sysplex environments. As a result of the successful implementation of encryption at Verizon Wireless, we’ll have a brief discussion of other regulatory compliance projects, including the creation of an auditing process for trusted user access using DB2 trace and OMPE audit reporting.
In this session, we will discuss IBM encryption solutions that:
- Provide customizable encryption exits for IMS segments and DB2 rows
- Use U.S. National Institute of Science and Technology approved algorithms
- Provide exit drivers for compression and encryption that use low processing overhead System z Crypto hardware features
- Minimize the liability associated with growing compliance demands through auditing capabilities for IT organizations
Speakers: Ernie Mancill, Executive IT Specialist, IBM and Karl King, Associate Director for DB2 Database Administration, Verizon Wireless
Join us after the teleconference for a live question-and-answer session. This teleconference will also be available for replay after the event.
