Abstracts
8:30 a.m. - Introductions and program overview
9:15 a.m. - Getting started with private clouds on System z
Many companies recognize that cloud technology can help them achieve the goals of an optimized data center. But the widely-held perception remains that creating a private cloud infrastructure is always expensive, time-consuming and extremely complicated. Not true. IBM zEnterprise Starter Edition for Cloud is an entry-level private cloud offering that works in your current Linux on System z environment. This session will give you an overview of the product and show the ease of entry into the benefits of cloud technology on zEnterprise — helping you reduce capital and administration expenses.
10:25 a.m. - Successful System z clouds need good visibility, control and automation from Tivoli
Moving to cloud in a System z environment? Good enterprise-wide visibility, control and automation will be key to achieving the cost savings and improved resource utilization promised by cloud, and supported by System z scalability. This session will discuss discovery, provisioning, security and chargeback that also foster faster decisionmaking. It will focus on the Tivoli and zEnterprise components that need to be moved to cloud. Join us and learn how you can implement a private cloud successfully with good service management.
11:25 a.m. - Solving the server sprawl problem with effective IT optimization
IT continues to face increasing demands on its budget, and many of these demands can impact customer efficiency and time to market. This session will provide solutions to those challenges for customers who are new to System z, as well as existing System z customers who are thinking strategically about cost-effective and creative solutions to their everyday problems. The session will cover deployment of workloads on “best fit” architectures for efficiency and innovation on Linux on System z, and Power® and x86 with the zEnterprise BladeCenter® Extension.
1:15 p.m. - Increasing availability and productivity with redesigned Tivoli OMEGAMON monitoring and analytics
Are you able to find problems before they become outages? Can you use one tool to monitor all your System z activities? As the complexity of your IT environment has increased, so has the need for a single tool providing visibility into your enterprise. The IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON family of products can enhance visibility with role-based, easy-to-use interfaces that let you isolate, diagnose and resolve critical problems quickly. We’ll discuss how its problemsolving scenarios give you more agility by proactively analyzing and managing z/OS, CICS and other enterprise environments as one. It can also detect bottlenecks and other potential performance problems from multiple vantage points. This session will discuss these OMEGAMON capabilities and how you can use them to be more productive and successful today.
2:25 p.m. - Creating an infrastructure tuned to the task with z/VM
Are you stuck with virtual machine sprawl that can accompany a traditional distributed approach? Are you still burdened with the complexity of managing servers that consume ever-increasing amounts of power and floor space? Can you meet the needs of your customers with flexible workload balancing while reducing the impact of planned outages? This session will show you how as we review the features and benefits of z/VM 6.2. We’ll discuss how multisystem virtualization can improve z/VM systems management and provide high levels of virtualization, I/O bandwidth, and system availability, as well as the advantages of virtual server mobility. We’ll demonstrate how System z virtualization with z/VM is a key element for infrastructure that is tuned to the task, while offering a more manageable infrastructure for cloud computing.
3:25 p.m. - Maximize availability and performance with Tivoli System Automation solutions
How can you ensure that the environment where your mission-critical business applications run has the highest availability possible, while you improve productivity across an increasingly heterogeneous z environment? With Tivoli System Automation solutions you can automate the availability and management of your business applications end-to-end from a single point of control. In this session, we’ll share with you how businesses using Tivoli Automation solutions can reduce software licensing and hardware costs, as wellas the cost of maintenance and support. Learn how to automate heterogeneous workloads enterprise-wide and create policy-driven automation using Tivoli System Automation products.
