  • -1421 - How we saw the need for asset discovery to save IT cost? - BCBS South Carolina
"Did you know that there are upwards of 400.000 load modules and Unix executables on an average z/OS operating system. To audit the usage and installation of these, Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS (TADz) provides an inventory of Software Products installed on a z/OS environment. TADz uses the discovery components, Inquisitor and Usage Monitor, which collect raw data about installed Software Products and execution data respectively. The IQ Import and Usage Import process helps to construct a picture of all installed software products and their usage to enable an analytical examination by using out-of-box reports which assist in answering the following questions to optimize and save cost on z/OS:
    • What software products have been installed?
    • In which libraries have they been installed?
    • What z/OS LPAR is the software being executed on?
    • Which jobs and users have executed them?
    • How often are the jobs being executed"

  • -1416 - Meet the business imperatives: optimize and modernize your "batch"
Organizations are increasingly challenged to process ever growing data volumes in ever diminishing "batch windows", and bring efficiency of batch processing into a globally integrated business dominated by the 24x7 uptime for on-line processing systems requirement. To accomplish these seemingly divergent goals, IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS offers a set of features and best practices that help you maximize the balance between operational efficiency and market responsiveness. You will learn how to speed up the execution of business critical workloads and improve SLAs, increase the parallelism, reduce the human intervention with self-repairing systems, integrate various new applications with no impact on the staffing, invoke scheduling services from web applications, and much more.

  • -1419 - Measure and increase automation level
"This session defines automation degree and level and how to measure and increase it. The automation scope is generic first and then focuses on IBM System z operations. A leading Tivoli System Automation for z/OS installation shares how they achieved a high automation level.
    A high automation level can:
    - Reduce manual effort, resulting in less costs, confusion and errors
    - Minimize outages by fast and reliable automatic recovery
    - Minimize hardware and software costs through time and load based automatic provisioning of resources
    - Achieve unattended operations"

  • -2436 - New Face of System Automation
Dashboards visualizing different monitoring and automation aspects of system and application resources are everywhere. SA Application Manager has developed the "new face of SA" and shows a dashboard solution to be used by administrators and operators of clustered and automated (SA) Systems. Systems, Applications and Business Solutions are shown in different views. Global messages and statistics show what is going on cross-cluster and operating system in your enterprise IT environment. Pre-canned dashboards as well as examples of own-created, customized dashboards are shown to see models for different visualization and operation aspects.

  • -2437 - The Value of System Automation for Mobile and Cloud
SA is the premier solution for Automation and HA of all workloads on System z and "Distributed". The product family SA z/OS, SA for Multiplatforms and SA Application Manager can control and automate business applications runing on z/OS, Linux on System z, zVM and almost any other "distributed" operating system. New guest systems required by cloud services can easily be added to the managemenbt scope of composite business applications. The new Dashboard-based operations console of SA Application Manager offers a simple way to control these automated resources even with custom-tailored mobile applications.
    Bernd Jostmeyer, IBM
  • -2446 - Automated Operations "Hot" Topics
Examples from the best practices based on the customer implemented solutions will be provided. System Automation Application Manager provides automated operations spanning open platforms and System z. The ways for Tivoli System Automation Application Manager integration with ITM / ITCAM, as well as with TWS. Scenarios will be demonstrated showing the coordinated scheduling of the complexes heterogeneous environments controlled by TSA Application Manager. The speaker will share some tips and tricks from his experience as a SWAT member.

Hands-on labs

  • -E01 - Creating New Workspaces for Self Describing Agents
In this lab you will be using enhanced 3270 user interface and create two new workspaces showing the status of Self Describing Agents.
    Skill level: Intermediate
  • -E02 - Creating an initial custom menu
In this lab you will be using enhanced 3270 user interface to create a new starting menu which includes status of situations, a top ten list of address spaces using CPU, and use of userid specific filters to override IBM supplied values.
    Skill level: Intermediate
  • -E03 - Configuration Tool for the First-Time-User
Using OMEGAMON's configuration method PARMGEN, you can quickly configure environments, add products, and change parameters. Learn how to configure new runtime environments (RTE) using PARMGEN or to convert from ICAT to PARMGEN and upgrade an existing environments to retain your current customized RTE. See how easy and intuitive PARMGEN and the documentation are to use.

  • -E04 - How to set up automated failovers of workload automation
"In this lab you make IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler highly available and implement a jobstream that performs a failover of workload automation including its database. The solutions uses an IBM Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms automation policy, shipped with IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, to make IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler highly available and the integration of IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler with IBM Tivoli System Automation Application Manager to start/stop complex applications as required by production plan."

  • -E05 - Autodiscover z/OS and define automation policy
In this hands-on lab you are guided through all necessary steps to create a working IBM Automation Control for z/OS or Tivoli System Automation for z/OS automation policy based on automatically discovered z/OS and Unix System Services resources.
    Skill level: Intermediate
  • -E06 - Introduction to workload scheduling with Tivoli Workload Scheduler 9.1
In this lab exercise, you discover the functions performed by a job scheduler. You implement those features in Tivoli Workload Scheduler 9.1, using the web-based Dynamic Workload Console.
    Skill level: Intermediate
  • -E07 - Promoting high value workloads to the cloud using Tivoli Workload Automation
With Tivoli Workload Scheduler 9.1, you can seamlessly migrate workloads to cloud-based environments based on whether a batch workflow will meet its predetermined deadline time. Based on SLA requirements, Workload Scheduler can place jobs on alternate compute resources if it determines the processing could be late.
    Skill level: Intermediate
  • -E08 - z/OS Operations
In this hands-on lab you use IBM Automation Control for z/OS, which is built with Tivoli System Automation for z/OS and Tivoli System NetView for z/OS technology, to operate z/OS resources including start, stop, and display of status.
    Skill level: Introductory
  • -E09 - Disaster recovery using end-to-end automation
In this hands-on lab you use the latest version of IBM Tivoli System Automation Application Manager to implement a Disaster Recovery scenario consisting of two sites running a Websphere based web-shop. In the Disaster Recovery case you use its browser-based graphical user interface to shutdown the applications of primary and secondary sites and to restart the applications of the primary site on the secondary site with a single action. This can be combined with storage replication.
