Enterprise Modernisation Strategies in a Stressed Economic Environment

Most organisations wrestle with how to optimise multiple generations of technology to support mission-critical operations. As technology cycles accelerate, IT managers must address the question of what to do with legacy systems. These are assets that are either aging or for which internal technical expertise may be waning.

The objective of an enterprise modernisation strategy is to rapidly inventory all assets, identify the utility of all key codes, and then develop an accessible library that allows IT managers to re-use assets in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.

Searle talks about how an effective enterprise modernisation (US) initiative can reduce the amount of time and money organisations invest in maintenance activities. Then, IT managers can allocate more resources to new development projects that exploit new opportunities or differentiate the organisation from competitors. That’s doing more with less.
