LOGIC Makes Data Retrieval Faster and Easier for e-businesses
RadiantOne Delivers First Native Plug-In for IBM SecureWay Directory
August 8, 2000
Radiant Logic Inc. announced that their flagship offering, RadiantOne Virtual Directory Server, is the first product that allows customers to access data from both the IBM SecureWay Directory and IBM's DB2 Universal Database, making data retrieval faster and easier.
Customer's typically store user data in the IBM SecureWay Directory and application data in the Universal Database. With RadiantOne, customers now have the ability to access the data stored in the directory and the database from a single, standards-based protocol.
Applications, such as customer profiling and catalog aggregation for e-commerce, require the use of live data typically resident in multiple data sources. RadiantOne, combined with the highly scalable IBM SecureWay Directory, provides authentication and security with direct access to source data. This combination yields the best of both worlds – the security, scalability and flexibility available with IBM's Directory, along with the power of publishing complex data and relationships found in RadiantOne.
"We've worked very closely with Radiant Logic to ensure tight integration between RadiantOne and the IBM SecureWay Directory," said Chris Wicher, vice president intergration, IBM Software Group. "This tight product integration translates into quicker, easier access to vital information for our e-business customers as they move ahead in today's fast-paced market."
Built on a DB2 database engine, the IBM SecureWay Directory provides full-featured Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) capability, giving the product flexibility and security. In addition, the Directory is scalable and recoverable – hallmarks for a field proven database. By adding the RadiantOne plug-in, e-business can extend the attributes of IBM SecureWay Directory thus, adding more reach and richness.
Directories and Virtual Directories
Essentially, a directory functions as a central repository or aggregation point for information. However, to take advantage of a directory, system operators must be able to move, transform and load data from different and dispersed data sources. It is this disparity of sources problem that RadiantOne addresses. By plugging in RadiantOne, IBM e-business users can aggregate data from multiple, heterogeneous sources while allowing the data to reside in its original source database. Synchronization, conversion and data loading are no longer issues because RadiantOne virtually aggregates the data.
Even more importantly, by keeping the relationships that exist inside the different
applications, RadiantOne allows quick publishing into a central place not only
the information, but how the information is related to its specific context.
For example, RadiantOne will not only show orders, but which suppliers are related
to them and which salespeople handled the orders. In this way, the SecureWay
directory can reflect the contextual relationships between data that was previously
dispersed over many different applications. Now the directory can serve as a
virtual repository for key information for use in a multitude of applications.
About RadiantOne
As in any enterprise-class Web solution, standards, security,
scalability and performance are critical. Radiant Logic's adherence to industry
standards and industrial strength building blocks has created a solution that
meets the rigors of an e-business economy. RadiantOne, a Virtual Directory Server
based on LDAP, XML and SQL technology, enables data from any application to
be viewed through the same Internet standard API used to access directories
from IBM SecureWay, Oracle Internet Directory, Microsoft Active Directory, Netscape
iPlanet and Novell eDirectory. RadiantOne turns any application into a Virtual
Directory of data, allowing developers to use one consistent API when writing
directory-enabled applications.
