Seven New Business Partners Support IBM SecureWay Directory,Giving Customers Simple, Fast Information Management Tools
IBM today announced that seven new business partner applications support IBM's SecureWay Directory. SecureWay Directory is an LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)-based directory server that provides a common and simple method for centrally storing, locating and managing directory information on an enterprise network across multiple platforms. Because companies maintain an average of 100 unique directories, standards-based simplicity is crucial for those companies transforming from traditional businesses to e-businesses, saving time and money in enterprise management.
The following companies have joined with IBM as business partners to offer applications that access network-based information more efficiently:
Aventail Corporation (www.aventail.com)
Aventail Corporation is a leading provider of EMS solutions for the Global 2000. It's award winning solution, Aventail ExtraNet Center, is designed to address the specific requirements of business-to-business commerce and collaboration. It gives corporations the ability to create a centralized extranet management and security policy that defines how, when, and what resources can be accessed by business partners, suppliers, and/or customers. Aventail ExtraNet Center has been developed to safely cross organizational boundaries and to integrate with the diverse environments of independent businesses. It includes a suite of services beyond basic encryption, including rules-based access control, user-based authentication, key/certificate management and distribution, active content filtering, intelligent logging and reporting, and the ability to secure any IP-based application.
Aventail's support for IBM SecureWay Directory will enable corporations to authorize extranet users and groups from a centralized directory. This simplifies extranet user management and allows the Global 2000 to easily deploy and manage large-scale extranets. Aventail's solutions are currently deployed by more than 300 companies including Aetna, Bear Stearns, Kodak, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, IKON, Marriott, and Xerox.

IBM SecureWay Directory uses IBM DB2 Universal Database to store data, capable of storing 4 billion entries of information. SecureWay Directory has proven to be highly scaleable for the large enterprise networks, making it easier and faster for customers to access and manage information.
Ken Graff of Whirlpool comments on IBM SecureWay Directory, "When my staff was tasked to set up a powerful, secure scheme for identification, authentication, and authorization for connecting resources on our intranet -- and do the job fast -- we turned to the IBM LDAP Directory," said Ken Graff, Manager of Security and Audit Compliance at Whirlpool Corp. "We are extremely pleased with the way it works -- especially with its scalability, a key priority for us because we hope eventually to establish an extranet with 50 million potential users. Implementation was fast and easy, even though we hadn't worked with LDAP before. IBM continues to make very significant progress with its Directory product, and we look forward to continuing our very positive relationship with IBM."
"Our business partners are constantly challenged with making information management easier for their customers," says Jeff Jaffe, general manager, IBM SecureWay. "Because SecureWay Directory is an standards-based solution, scaleability and ease of use allow them to easily update and maintain all kinds of mission-critical information stored on their networks."
SecureWay Directory is a component of many IBM products, including SecureWay FirstSecure, SecureWay Vault Registry, SecureWay On-Demand Server, WebSphere, AIX, OS/390 and OS/400.
These companies join the seven business partners that announced support of IBM's SecureWay Directory in December 1998, including Allot Communications, DASCOM, enCommerce Inc., Netegrity Inc., Persistent Systems Private Limited, Security Dynamics, Triangulum Software.
