IBM Directory Server courses now offered by IBM Canada!

IBM Directory Server education courses are now available. The IBM Toronto Education Center is now offering a 2-and-1/2 day course that introduces the user to the IBM Directory Server. The class introduces the fundamental LDAP concepts, including installation, configuration, administration and tuning of the IBM Directory Server LDAP product. The course is taught in a hands-on training environment, where each student utilizes a Windows NT workstation to perform assigned labs. The student labs include install, configure, loading sample data, and performing typical data transformations.

The course assumes no prior LDAP knowledge. There are no prerequisites to the course other than a willingness to learn.

The course is being offered in the IBM Toronto Education Center. This is a beautiful facility with a very conducive atmosphere for learning. You will find Toronto to be a very exciting and cost-effective learning destination .The demand for a IBM education offering on LDAP has been high. IBM Directory Server LDAP Training Course Outline

IBM can offer Quick Start training for the IBM Directory Server LDAP as a 2.5-day services offering. This class for up to 12 students introduces the fundamental LDAP concepts and the installation, configuration, and administration of the IBM Directory Server LDAP product on AIX and NT in a hands-on training environment. Students perform the installation of the IBM Directory Server LDAP and/or client product, configure the server, load a sample database and use the GUI and command line tools packaged with the product to access and administer it. Students learn how to customize and extend the directory schema packaged with the product, set up replication and referrals between directory servers, and tune the directory server and its underlying DB/2 database to optimize directory performance.

Course Summary

After completion of the course students are able to:

  • Describe the basic LDAP concepts
  • Describe the components of the IBM Directory Server LDAP, how it is packaged for installation on AIX and NT, and its hardware and software prerequisites.
  • Perform the installation and configuration of the IBM Directory Server LDAP on AIX and NT systems, verify that it has been correctly installed, and load a sample database.
  • Use GUI tools to customize the IBM Directory Server, administer it, and set up replication and referrals between two or more IBM Directory Servers.
  • Back up and restore the directory database.
  • Explain the purpose of the directory schema and its object classes and attributes. Students will be able to use a GUI tool to modify and extend the default directory schema packaged with the IBM Directory Server product to customize it for their applications.
  • Use the standard tools and utility programs packaged with the IBM Directory Server to customize the directory for their applications.
  • View, edit, and delete directory entries using the Directory Management Tool.
  • Describe the access control model supported by the IBM Directory Server and use GUI tools to set up and enforce an access control policies for directory entries.
  • Tune the performance of the IBM Directory Server server. While this course does not go into details of DB/2 UDB administration and optimization, students will be able to perform basic tasks to optimize the performance of directory's DB/2 database.
  • Be able to use GUI tools to set up replication and referrals between directory servers
  • Configure and use the changelog facility of the directory

Classroom equipment
When the class is taught on-site the customer must provide a classroom environment with the equipment necessary for the students to install the directory server and perform lab exercises. Details are provided when the training is arranged.
