Plans for new meeting experience
IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5 software
At Lotusphere 2009 IBM introduced Lotus Sametime 8.5 software, which will provide a new online meeting experience, among other significant enhancements. Lotus Sametime 8.5 will make starting meetings virtually instantaneous, inviting others as easy as dragging names from your contact list and joining a meeting as simple as joining a chat. Meetings will be accessible through the Sametime Connect client as well as Web browsers and will be uniquely persistent. You can set up different meetings rooms devoted to different topics, and your files, transcripts, action items, and notes will be exactly where you left them the last time you used that room.
IBM is also planning to include the following capabilities in this software release:
- A zero-download, browser-based instant messaging client, which can be useful for both resource constrained deployments and chat enabling Web sites.
- The ability to extend unified communications capabilities to your Web applications through standard Web development tools, which can simplify the development of Communications Enabled Business Processes (CEBP).
- A modern video infrastructure with higher-quality, lower bandwidth codecs and improved integration into standards-based SIP endpoints, which can improve the video experience.
- New mobile device support, including a browser-based Apple iPhone client, which allows additional choice in devices.
- A new centralized management console, to make it easier for IT to deploy and administer Lotus Sametime software.
Lotus Sametime 8.5 software is currently planned to be available in 2H 2009.
