Live text and widgets

Connect users with relevant, real time information from a variety of sources without having to store it in a document or email.

The My Widgets sidebar panel in Lotus Notes allows users to quickly and easily perform business actions via widgets created from Lotus Notes views, Web pages, feeds and Google Gadgets™. These widgets can be standalone or launched from Live Text in Lotus Notes documents.

Lotus Notes 8 software can recognize and highlight specific patterns of text within an email or a Lotus Notes application — like an address, part number, or a currency value. Right clicking on highlighted Live Text allows users to perform an action on that text, for example, mapping an address, viewing inventory for a product, or converting between currencies.

Widgets can be developed and deployed by role or individual — helping users customize their work environment with what works best for them.

Open standard office documents

Lotus Notes 8 software integrates IBM Lotus Symphony software, office productivity tools that support the Open Document Format (ODF) standard. Open standards means you don't need to worry about end of life uncertainties or expensive, ongoing software licensing and royalty fees. Lotus Symphony software includes word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation capabilities. Users can create, manage, and edit documents in ODF, as well as import and export Microsoft® Office documents.

Create, edit, share, and save word processing documents. Start with a blank document, import an existing document, or choose from a set of document templates.
