Security policies and procedures vary from organization to organization. IBM® Lotus® Domino® software provides security features that allow organizations to control access to information, securely protect information, and guarantee authenticity of documents.
Lotus Domino software manages a public key infrastructure (PKI) to authenticate Lotus Notes users and servers, verify digital signatures, and encrypt messages and applications - even individual fields within applications. This helps provide for a more security-rich environment than those that use simple user id/password challenges. When you register new users and servers, Lotus Domino automatically creates a Lotus Notes certificate for each user and server ID.
You can use Lotus Domino software or a third-party certificate authority (CA) to create Internet certificates based on the x.509 certificate format. And Lotus Domino software can help you work with government agencies that are increasingly required to use products which conform to the FIPS 140-2 standard.
Access to Lotus Domino applications is controlled through access control lists (ACLs). For each user name, server name, or group name in an ACL, you can specify an access level, access level privileges, a user type, and one or more roles. Users that access applications through a browser can be granted a default access for anonymous Internet/Intranet users. or refine the capabilities just as Lotus Domino software does for IBM Lotus Notes® rich clients.
With clustering technology, you can tie multiple Lotus Domino servers together to create a seamless experience to a highly available, and high performing messaging or application environment. Your users will have the most up-to-date business data as applications replicate across servers continuously, synchronizing for consistency. In cases where a specific server is unavailable, users are directed to available replicas to allow access to mail files or applications.
