Tracking and reporting your licenses

IBM temporarily suspends certain tracking and reporting requirements for distributed sub-capacity software licenses.

November 6, 2007

Many customers have expressed concerns with IBM's requirements for sub-capacity licensing available through Passport Advantage. While some customers have been able to comply with these terms and requirements, customers with more complex sub-capacity environments have had difficulties and reporting problems. We have listened to this feedback and have announced improvements which will simplify the implementation, especially for complex sub-capacity environments.

The following were announced:

  1. Implementation of the IBM license metric tool is suspended until a new tool becomes available in mid-2008. This tool will replace the use of Tivoli License Compliance Manager for IBM Software program.
  2. Registration with IBM's License Management System application has been eliminated.
  3. Submission of IBM Use Reports quarterly has been eliminated.

Note: the following requirement is currently suspended (see above).

Tracking and reporting requirements and process

If you acquire an IBM software program that is licensed under sub-capacity terms and conditions, you are required to use an IBM supplied tool to generate quarterly reports showing the use or installation of sub-capacity products This requirement will be reinstated following the availability of the new IBM license metric tool in mid-2008.
